It has come to my attention that a person who spent years in this province paying taxes is denied the right or option to work here as an extra during his stay here as a struggling actor. This is not right, if they are allowed to fuck over local talent in normal roles for the Toronto and other ACTRA talent why is it that a UBCP member and former and possibly returning resident of Vancouver being screwed out of the option of an extra job, he is, at the very least, staying here without perdiums and studio or production costs. He's staying with family. However, for some reason, they can do and have to.
It is an outrage, if it's going to apply to that, than apply it everything from Gaffers to Actors and including stars, why not bar those from the US of A? I have answer but it might not be liked, because I support patriation of this police state into the constitutional protections of the United States of America.
This does bring up a point and the point is, no matter what you say about America, as long as you are and American Citizen you can work in California if you reside primarily in Nebraska. No matter how many patriot acts or other unconstitutional acts are passed they are illegal and anyone has the right to bring it up and fight it. Apathy is un-American, but not un-Canadian. The only thing that is losing them the American Revolution, that never ended it just went into a cold war phase, is apathy and the arrogant assumption that England won't take the most powerful Republic or country in the world and we can just turn our backs on the enemy and drop our guns and get some free toys out of the deal, oddly enough innocense is stolen in exchange for toys in many ways and cases.
Fact is while they want to steal your money with sin taxes on legal products and give it to users of illegal products while they won't let you, the taxpayer, work and pay taxes is evil and disgusting and government(s) should be ashamed of letting this happen to the presumably innocent (Guilds and Unions are somewhat governmental as well).
This of course is a constant problem, the incompetant are allowed to keep their job because they know the hand shake, keeping the competant that won't use it if they know it or don't know it and and this leaves those who can in a situation where they may not when if everyone did what they were capable of everyone who can would also may do so. The new incomming taxpayers who haven't finalized a permanent residency can't restart or start in the province and the idiots who came up with this nonsense will be blaming everyone else for their pensions and political pay bouncing.
It may look like it's targeting one job market, but it will expand at some point and the question is, who will be next and why shouldn't anyone be next? After all should it not apply to everyone? Why not shut down CHUMS CityTV? They import outsiders from Toronto and fire BC/Vancouverites all the time. Why not stop LA and TO actors from working in the west? Make them live here for a month and get a BC ID first? How about making sure that M.Ps and M.L.As move to their ridings at least? Isn't that at least fair?
The fact is this is hardly a good thing, for those at least staying here and having an interest in moving to Vancouver, after all this individual (perhaps being a little extreme) with every reason to be on DB2 refuses to do that and wants to work at his trade. Perhaps BC should be so lucky he doesn't have my disenfranchised view of the film industry being nothing but a bunch of parasites living off of government's corportate welfare programs and part of the oligarchy and it's propaganda indulging in corporate anarchy (not excluding "independent" films) and refusing to be a part of that, I rather have the smaller disability check than the larger corporate welfare check.
